The credits are digital and don’t take up any physical space, so the only reason why users aren’t allowed to save up credits for a book shopping spree is to collect subscription fees without giving members one book for every month they subscribe, as advertised. The suit then, is on behalf of consumers in California only, and presumes that Audible credits are the equivalent of gift cards.Īmazon, the lawsuit alleges, does tell members that the book credits expire after six months “to make room for” new credits.

That’s important, because gift certificates or cards aren’t allowed to expire in California, where the lead plaintiff lives. One of them has filed a class action against Amazon over this structure, claiming that the credits are like gift cards. However, customers have learned that while they get to keep their purchased books after canceling a membership, they do not get to keep unused credits.

This really amounts to some sort of trickery in gift card purchases, as the purchaser isn't understanding Audible's process.3.14.17 4:28 PM EDT By Laura Northrup audible audiobooks class actions lawsuitsĪmazon’s audiobook store/subscription service hybrid, Audible, charges its members a monthly fee, in return for which they get monthly credits. (NOTE: I've noticed how they don't allow gift cards to be loaded on your website, but do everything through Amazon.) IF ONLY MY DAUGHTER UNDERSTOOD THAT I ALREADY HAD AN ACCOUNT, SHE WOULD HAVE GIVEN ME AN AMAZON GIFT CARD. I am surprised that this is my reward for having a PREMIUM PLUS Membership. Again, I purchase credits all the time as a long time customer. I get the benefit of $34 from them for MY GIFT AND THEY GET THE ADDITIONAL $10+. I often buy 3 credits, so I get what is happening here. My daughter paid $45 for me to buy books through Audible and THEY GAVE ME about $34 cost of usual credits. I CALLED MY DAUGHTER THIS AM and found out she paid $45. I was shocked to see 3 credits, as she usually gives me a $50 gift card.

I asked him how much the gift certificate was and he told me he didn't know, but if I accept the gift it will go into my account as credits. THW ASSOCIATE walked me through what I needed to do. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED AUDIBLE because I already had a membership. On Monday, Jan 24th (just yesterday), my daughter purchased an electronic gift card for me. If this isn't resolved, I will be leaving Audible and finding satisfaction elsewhere. The strange thing is they all parroted the very same thing, which tells me I am not alone on this problem THIS company has. I am VERY UPSET that I spent 40 minutes trying to resolve this issue and all three associates were uncaring. I am a Premium Plus Member and pay $22.95 monthly. I have been an Audible member since 2011.
